Nyko Drum Pedal Rating:4 out of 5 stars Looks good and, despite other comments – appears sturdy. Has been well used since purchase, was easy to link up and shows no sign of cracking or breaking, unlike the one supplied with the kit originally.
Avoid at all costs Rating:1 out of 5 stars I am now in the process of returning my second Nyko Drum Pedal.
I originally purchased this so-called ‘durable’ Rock Band pedal after the original article snapped along the pedal plate, and thus thought that the metal support in this pedal would stop this from happening.
I was impressed when I received this pedal – it is far more comfortable and easier to use than the original and did dramatically improve my scores, however within a month the plastic base plate had snapped in two, rendering the item useless.
After returning the item and receiving a replacement, my second has now snapped in a completely different place on the plastic.
I will not be getting another.
Avoid at all costs unless you can be bothered to return it every other month.
Not Ideal Rating:1 out of 5 stars I have a couple of quite major gripes with this item.
The first one might seem minor, but I found out to my cost that although the box of this item contains a splitter to enable double-pedal play as another reviewer has mentioned, double-pedal play is NOT possible on any Rock Band 1 drum kit. This limitation is shown on a sticker on the packaging for this item in tiny writing, yet nowhere on the product listing page on Amazon – buyer beware, at £25 this can be an annoying mistake to make.
Secondly, although the pedal itself feels much sturdier than the standard pedal, it would appear that the attention to detail at Nyko is limited. The much-hyped coiled wire pulls down on the plug when playing with the drums at a more adult height (I’m 6′6″ and they’re a little low for me on the highest possible setting) and consequently my pedal ceased to function entirely after less than a month.
It might be worth considering a metal pedal cover, like Mad Catz Rock Band Drum Skinz and Kick Pedal (Xbox 360) if you’re wanting to repair or prevent a broken pedal.
Brilliant Replacement Rating:5 out of 5 stars If like me, you’ve played drums on Rockband and have started getting to the expert level which involes a lot of fast double hits and constant beats you will have experienced that it is incredibly hard to do with the stock pedal, as it has no weight to it whatsoever.
This pedal combats that, and adds some weight to the pedal by adding a metal plate (with a skeleton on it!), which really helps with those fast hits and constant beats.
It has a switch around halfway up the cable that says ‘Guitar Hero’ and ‘Rockband’ on it, now at first I was confused, and when I put Guitar Hero: Metallica in my xbox, I switched the pedal to ‘Guitar Hero’ mode and it didn’t work, after that I thought for a bit and it seems the switch is for what drumset you use it with, not what game.
Overall, if you’re fed up with failing out of songs on Expert and want a more sturdy, durable and reliable pedal, this is the one to get, it won’t let you down
Good, but… Rating:4 out of 5 stars Firstky, I was very impressed with the packaging and the product is of overall great quality. Sadly it doesn’t fit ‘perfectly’ with a RB1 drum kit, there’s a bit of give but nothing major.
